Be it big-budget spectacles, mid-range films, or small movies, Indian cinema is currently facing challenges in closing OTT deals at the expected prices.
While pan-Indian films like “Toxic” and “Varanasi” are receiving offers from platforms, they are encountering significant price reductions.
S. S. Rajamouli’s “Varanasi” was quoted at a massive price to Netflix, but the platform is reportedly negotiating for a lower deal. A final agreement is expected soon.
Similarly, Yash’s “Toxic” has received offers from Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, but the team is said to be surprised by the lower valuations. The deal is yet to be finalized.
On the other hand, Akhil Akkineni’s film is facing a tougher situation. With no consistent track record of major theatrical or OTT success and delays in production, the team has not been able to crack a deal so far.
Despite Sithara Entertainments having strong ties with Netflix and usually closing deals smoothly for its projects, this particular film is encountering hurdles. Nagarjuna is also co-producing the movie.
Overall, the OTT market appears to be tightening, with platforms becoming cautious about pricing even for high-profile projects.
