Jana Sena@6: Pawan, a damp squib!

Jana Sena Party founded by power star Pawan Kalyan has completed sixth year of its formation on Saturday.

If one were to look back at the party’s achievements in the last six years, one can find nothing in it – the party is completely hollow and its leader has proved to be a damp squib.

In fact, exactly a year ago, Pawan was viewed as a force to reckon with by the political pundits.

On March 14 last year, Pawan addressed a massive public meeting at Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds in Guntur, generating a lot of hype in the state politics.

He attacked the then Telugu Desam Party led by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh, describing them as corrupt and failed leaders.

He was riding on the plank of special category status to AP and attracted several leaders into the party.

Everybody expected that he would create a wave in the state politics and would eat into the vote bank of both YSRC and the TDP.

At one stage, there were attempts to bring an alliance between YSR Congress and Jana Sena in order to prevent split of the anti-establishment votes, particularly that of Kapus.

But very soon, Pawan turned out be an immature leader with no specific political ideology. He suddenly stopped targeting TDP and Naidu, and started attacking YSR Congress party.

The people realised that Pawan had a secret understanding with the TDP which was evident from the way Jana Sena did not put up candidates in Kuppam and Mangalagiri, while the TDP chief did not campaign in Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram.

And the result was visible after the elections. Jana Sena ended up with just around six percent votes and one assembly seat. Pawan himself lost both his seats from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram. Very soon, the party started disintegrated and slipped into a limbo.

While several leaders defected from Jana Sena, Pawan remained helpless, so much so that he is not able to suspend his party’s lone MLA Rapaka Varaprasada Rao from Razole, who defied the party and supported the Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Worse, Rapaka is now issuing YSRC party tickets to candidates in MPTC and ZPTC elections in East Godavari and Jana Sena chief is afraid of taking disciplinary action against the MLA.

Now, Pawan is trying to sustain his party by joining hands with Bharatiya Janata Party. But it has become a non-serious party with Pawan deciding to get back into films to make money.

What else can we call him, if not a failed leader?
