Jagan Calls For Emergency Cabinet Meet

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had called for an emergency meeting of his cabinet on Tuesday night, after the assembly session. The cabinet is scheduled to meet at 10 pm on the day.

The meeting is to take a call on the abolition of the State Legislative Council, which is creating troubles for the government.

The TDP has 29-members in the 58-member House and its chairman and vice-chairman too belonged to the TDP.

Though the YSR Congress had won the elections with 151 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly, the government is not able to carry out its business as the TDP is creating hurdels in the Legislative Council. Readmore!

With majority on hand and the chairman and vice-chairman belonging to the TDP, things have become tough for Jagan Mohan Reddy government to hold the sessions and get the bills passed.

The draft bill to abolish the Council was ready on Monday evening but the chief minister gave an opportunity for the members of the Upper House to realise that he has the mandate to rule and not the TDP.

However, the TDP, which is trying to bulldoze its plans did not relent and the “elders” in the Upper House stopped the government business on Tuesday.

Taking cue from this attitude of the TDP-led Council, the chief minister had called for the cabinet meeting to give its clearance for the draft bill to abolish the council.

The bill is likely to be tabled in the Assembly on Wednesday, the last day of the special session.

Once the Assembly passes the bill, the Chief Minister would have to get the clearance from the President, which is in the hands of the BJP leadership.

It has to be completed before he goes for the budget session in March this year. It is to be seen how far he would succeed in this mission.
