It's time for us to turn into a farmer: Puri Jagan

Director Puri Jagannadh is touching every issue or topic with his musings. Today’s pick of the topic is vertical farming and explaining the some details, Puri said that it’s time for all of us to turn a farmer.

“There are three times in this vertical farming, they are hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics. Among the three hydroponics is easy, sustainable and it doesn’t requires acres and acres of land. Your terrace is sufficient and we can grow organic vegetables using less water and pesticides,” said Puri.

And the reason Puri is encouraging vertical farming is population. “250 babies per minute and everyday 4 lakh babies are born in the country. In the next two decades, ten billion new people will step on the earth and the whole world will appear as a packed train. For the next 25 years, the cultivation needs to grow by seventy percent, if not there will not be adequate food for the population. For a family and their new born, at least an acre of land is needed to be self-sufficient. India has 80 million hectars of land and even this would be deficient,” said Puri.

Further Puri stated “On top of this farmers are dying and nobody cares about them. So it’s time for us to turn farmers and in every household a farmer should be born. Every family should grow their own vegetables. Also the government should take responsibility about encouraging vertical farming and in every village, this method of farming should be introduced. If this is initiated with immediate effect, it will meet our requirements for the next 25 years. If not our children will not have food.” Readmore!

Concluding Puri said seventy percent of land would get free with vertical farming and here we can cultivate rice, wheat, corn and others. And our politicians should tie a towel to their heads and turn farmers.
