Amaravathi: Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan finally addressed the press today.
When a journalist asked why he had not been seen during the recent devastating floods, he gave a surprising response: "If I come out, it will hinder rescue operations. I was advised not to step out because people would gather around and disrupt the rescue efforts. That’s the only reason I stayed away."
He suggested that his popularity is so immense that his presence would be a distraction.
In doing so, he implied that Chandrababu Naidu is less popular and therefore able to participate in rescue operations and interact with officials and flood victims.
"If Pawan Kalyan believes that his film star status is something to boast about, does he think he is bigger than NTR and MGR in terms of stardom, who also served as Chief Ministers? Both NTR and MGR were known for their active participation in rescue operations, whether in power or in opposition. Pawan thinks too much of himself," mentioned a netizen.
Another netizen mentioned, "Pawan Kalyan, when he was in the opposition during Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule, used to go out into the public doing all sorts of hungama. Nothing happened as he is assuming now. He could have come out, and hardly anyone would have bothered about his so-called film stardom. Why would people who are suffering from losing homes and belongings in floods have any interest in going crazy over him? His statement doesn't make any sense."
Pawan Kalyan claims he has been working behind the scenes, but if that’s the case, why haven’t any pictures been released?
Many netizens are criticizing Pawan Kalyan for his unconvincing answers and questioning why he entered politics if he feels his stardom would disrupt rescue efforts.
Ultimately, a leader should be able to provide moral support to people in times of trouble. Failing to do so and remaining hidden can lead to such criticism.
It’s hoped that Pawan Kalyan will understand this fundamental aspect of politics and the minimum expectations of the people, especially since he holds the position of Deputy Chief Minister.
