Varun Tej admits that love stories don’t offer much variety in terms of acting. There is no challenge to perform in romantic dramas, they limit the potential of an actor.
This is what prompted him to agree to do the role of Gaddala Ganesh, a mass character in “Valmiki”.
“After playing classy characters in ‘Fidaa’, ‘Antariksham’ and ‘Toli Premaa’, I have felt that my performance is getting stereotyped. I wanted something drastically different from what I have done so far. Harish Shankar has come up with this character at right time,” he said.
“Valmiki” is a remake of Tamil dark comedy “Jigarthanda”. In the original film, Bobby Simha played the role that Varun has done now and this role fetched the Tamil actor a national award. But Varun clarifies that he didn’t imitate Bobby Simha.
“I did it in my style. I have used rural slang of Telangana that gave a different dimension to the performance,” he further added.
