Defection of leaders from one party to another is quite common in politics. But when we see certain leaders who defect into the same party which they had abused till recently, we get irritated and wonder how shameless these politicians are.
Take the case of former MLC Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, who defected from the Telugu Desam Party into the YSR Congress party in the presence of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday.
Till recently, Jupudi was the spokesperson of the TDP and used to shower abuses on YSRC and Jagan with choicest epithets.
Now that the TDP is out of power, Jupudi lost no time in returning to the YSRC, which gave him the political life.
He said nearly 50 per cent of the people had voted for Jagan believing that he can bring back Rajanna's governance.
“Now, with no hesitation, I can say that state can go forward in the direction of development under the leadership of Jagan and Vijay Sai Reddy,” he said.
Jupudi admitted that there were a few mistakes from his side, as he wandered aimlessly like a sheep.
“To rectify those mistakes, on the occassion of Dussehra, I have joined in the party again,” said Jupudi.
The man, who headed Mala Mahanadu in the past and had fought against SC categorisation demand put forth by Manda Krishna Madiga, was groomed as a politician by late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who made him an MLC in 2009.
After YSR’s death, his son Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy continued to encourage Jupudi and gave him a lot of prominence in YSR Congress party. But after Jagan failed to come to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2014, he quickly jumped into the Telugu Desam Party president and started attacking Jagan with harsh words.
Naidu made him the chairman of AP SC Cooperative Finance Corporation twice, though he could not give the MLC seat again. The TD chief used Jupudi in several ways to attack Jagan till recently.
Now that Jagan has come to power with a huge mandate and the TDP has lost the elections miserably, Jupudi is now back into the YSRC fold. Now, we can see Jupudi shamelessly praising Jagan and abusing TDP.
“It is unfortunate that those who had abused the party when it was in crisis are back in the same party and might get good positions. What about those who strived hard for the party all these days?” asked a YSRC activist.
