Game Changer to Akhanda 2: 10 of the biggest film flops of 2025

The 2025 Telugu box office produced several high-profile failures, but the following ten films stood out for the magnitude of their losses.

Ranked based on expectation, budget size, theatrical recovery and the widening gap between investment and returns, these titles underline how scale without content proved disastrous this year.

1. Game Changer

Topping the list of 2025’s biggest flops is Game Changer, a film mounted on an enormous budget and backed by massive expectations. Readmore!

Despite a thunderous opening a total collection of Rs 156.03 crore gross in India and Rs 186.28 crore gross worldwide, the film failed to recover even half of its investment.

The sheer scale of expenditure turned what looked like big numbers on paper into the year’s most damaging financial loss.

2. Hari Hara Veera Mallu

Close behind is Hari Hara Veera Mallu, a long-delayed period action drama that went on to collect Rs 102.38 crore gross in India and Rs 116.88 crore gross worldwide.

However, repeated delays, ballooning costs and high interest burdens ensured that the theatrical revenue fell far short, resulting in massive losses and a clear flop verdict.

3. Mass Jathara

Mass Jathara failed to capitalize on its commercial positioning. After opening dull, the film closed with Rs 20.44 crore gross in India and Rs 21.79 crore gross worldwide.

The sharp drop after the initial days and the inability to sustain footfalls led to losses exceeding 50 percent of the investment.

4. Telusu Kadaa

Telusu Kadaa struggled almost immediately after release. With India collections of just Rs 10.45 crore gross and worldwide earnings of Rs 11.2 crore gross, the film failed to connect with audiences. Poor word of mouth and weak theatrical traction resulted in heavy losses.

5. Ghaati

Ghaati delivered one of the weaker box office performances of the year. The film managed Rs 8.3 crore gross in India and Rs 9 crore gross worldwide.

Low occupancies and limited reach ensured that it failed to recover even a modest portion of its investment.

6. Thammudu

With a lukewarm opening day collection, Thammudu quickly ran out of steam. The film ended its run with Rs 7.33 crore gross in India and Rs 8.33 crore gross worldwide.

The sharp decline after release led to a flop verdict. The difference between the investment and ROI is enormous.

7. Jack

Jack showed brief promise with opening day collection but collapsed soon after. With total collections of Rs 9.3 crore gross in India and Rs 9.33 crore worldwide, the film failed to sustain audience interest and suffered heavy losses.

8. Andhra King Taluka

Despite reasonable initial curiosity, Andhra King Taluka could not sustain momentum at the box office. The film collected Rs 27.2 crore gross in India and Rs 32.2 crore gross worldwide, figures that proved insufficient against its cost.

The gap between investment and recovery placed it firmly in the flop category.

9. Kingdom

Kingdom ranks one among the top flops due to its high budget and underwhelming recovery. The film opened well but finished with Rs 60.8 crore gross in India and Rs 82.58 crore gross worldwide.

While these figures appear respectable, they were nowhere near enough to offset the heavy investment, making the film one of the biggest financial disappointments of the year.

10. Akhanda 2

This is another shocking failure of the year. There were huge expectations for this project, but the over-the-top budget and poor reception marred it badly.

Though it is still running in theatres, the heavy drop in collections is hinting that it may become a failed venture. So far, it has made Rs 83.75 crore gross in India and Rs 94.5 crore gross worldwide.

Together, these ten films reflect the harsh reality of the 2025 box office, where inflated budgets, delayed productions and weak content turned several high-profile and promising releases into major financial setbacks for the industry.
