Fact Sheet: Eenadu Too Stoops Down To The Low

The media in Andhra Pradesh is known for biased or misleading news, to protect or promote their own interests, including political interests.

The media is clear on this and people too are aware of this biased journalism, as a section of the media had been stooping down to protect the TDP and damage YSR in the past and Jagan Mohan Reddy at present.

Some media houses, like Andhra Jyothi and TV5, are known to be brand ambassadors for stooping down to any extent.

Now, with today’s banner story, Eenadu, joined the team, stooping down to the lowest, to cast shadow on Jagan Mohan Reddy-led state government.

The Eenadu carried the banner story stating that AP had “Borrowed beyond the limit”, which indicates the financial mismanagement by Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The story implies that Jagan Mohan Reddy government is going for huge borrowings, even beyond the permitted levels and thus pushing the state into financial crisis.

The story has its base on the reply of Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chowdary, in Rajya Sabha to the questions asked by TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar.

What actually the Union Finance Minister said was different and how the Eenadu twisted it is different.

The finance minister said that the Central government had allowed the states, including Andhra Pradesh, to go for “additional borrowing in 2019-20, as a one-time special dispensation, beyond state’s eligibility on account of low tax devolution in 2019-20.”

“States were also allowed additional borrowing ceiling of 2 percent of their GSDP for the year 2020-21, out of which borrowing permission of 1.90 percent of GSDP amounting to Rs 19,192 crore was issued to the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.”

This is what the finance minister said in the Rajya Sabha. The permission to go for additional borrowing and the permission to go beyond the ceiling was duly given by the Central government for two reasons – Covid 19 and the low tax devolution.

Most of the states in the country were given these two exemptions by the Central government and it was not limited to or exclusive of Andhra Pradesh.

Moreover, the Minister did not mention that Andhra Pradesh alone is going for additional borrowing as being claimed in the Eenadu banner story.

This means, that Ramoji Rao too is stooping down to the level of Radha Krishna of Andhra Jyothi group, just to protect the interests of the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu.
