The Election Commission of India on Friday granted permission to the Telangana government to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the formation of the state on June 2 on a grand scale.
An official release from the state government said the ECI had informed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari on Friday that the state could hold the state formation day celebrations on June 2.
Soon after receiving the communication from the ECI, she held a meeting with senior officials to kickstart the arrangements for the grand event.
She said the state formation day celebrations will be held at Secunderabad Parade Grounds.
The chief minister will first visit the gun park in front of the state assembly to pay tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives during the separate Telangana movement before proceeding to the venue to participate in the formation day celebrations.
The Telangana cabinet, which met under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday, resolved to celebrate the 10th Telangana formation day in a big way and sought the permission of the ECI for the same, in view of the model code of conduct in force for the Lok Sabha elections until June 6.
Revanth Reddy will leave for New Delhi in a day or two to invite senior Congress leader and former UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to the Telangana formation day celebrations.
The state government wants to felicitate her to express its gratitude for granting separate statehood to the region.
The Congress government is also planning to invite Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and the first chief minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, to the state formation day celebrations.
“We shall invite the former chief minister as well. We have no ego issues,” state Information Technology Minister D. Sridhar Babu said.
