Within two days of announcing withdrawal of her plans to resign from the Telugu Desam Party, actor-turned-politician and party spokesperson Divyavani on Thursday declared that she was quitting the party.
Divyavani met party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday evening and looked happy after coming out of the meeting. She told the reporters that Naidu had treated her with a lot of respect.
“I explained everything to the party president and he assured me that I would get all the respect in the party. I thank everybody who stood by me and the media who gave extensive coverage to my statement,” she told the reporters.
At a time when everybody felt that it was just a storm in the tea cup, on Thursday morning, Divyavani surprised everybody saying she was resigning from the party. She posted a video clipping in the social media to that effect.
At a press conference held in Hyderabad, Divyavani burst into tears within minutes of addressing the reporters.
“Some idiots spoke non-sense about me, saying I had taken package from Naidu for continuing in the party,” she alleged.
She said she had waited till the last minute to take the hard decision, as she wanted clarity of mind.
Inquiries revealed that Naidu had pulled her up for making a statement in the media that she was humiliated at Mahanadu.
“I was not given even two minutes’ time to speak at Mahanadu. Though I have been rendering selfless service to the party, I have not got any recognition,” she lamented.
Stating that she was very much pained to note that there is no position to film artistes like her in the party which was established by a film star himself, Divyavani said there was no proper guidance for the sincere workers in the party.
“All these days, I have been an official spokesperson of the party without any official powers,” she said.
Divyavani also showed soft corner towards the YSR Congress party.
“I don’t have any personal rivalry with chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy or former minister Kodali Nani,” she said.
