Despite spending Rs 67000 cr, Hyd still floats in rains

TRS working president and state IT minister KTR led the party to victory in the last elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) five years ago, promising the people to make Hyderabad a global city.

Five years down the line, many parts of Hyderabad still float in water whenever there is a rain for just a couple of hours.

The roads face heavy damages during every rainy season and the authorities take up cosmetic changes every time to show that all is well.

On Tuesday, KTR, while addressing a meeting of corporators, MLAs and elected public representatives of Hyderabad, claimed that the state government had spent over Rs 67,000 crore for taking up different developmental works in Hyderabad in the last five years. Readmore!

He said all the details of the development works executed during the last five years would be compiled into a report titled as ‘Pragathi Nivedika’, and would be released shortly.

He asked the corporators and elected public representatives to explain the citizens in detail about all the good work taken up by the government in Hyderabad.

But what KTR failed to explain is why Hyderabad continues to remain in such a bad condition even after five years. Most of the money he was talking about was spent only on flyovers, road-under-bridges, greenery and beautification.

The government, however, failed to address to the basic issues like improvement of underground drainage system, prevention of encroachment of drainages and nalas, lack of sanitation in many areas and permanent solution to the bad roads.

It remains to be seen how KTR will go to people to seek their votes without addressing these issues!
