Dalit leader to chair AP legislative council?

Newly appointed member of Andhra Pradesh state legislative council Koyye Moshen Raju is most likely to be appointed as the chairman of the council in the coming monsoon session of the state legislature.

Moshen Raju, who hails from West Godavari district, was nominated to the state legislative council last year under the Governor’s quota.

He had been in the Congress party for quite a long time and a loyalist of YSR family. Soon after Jagan floated YSRC in 2011, he quit the Congress to join the YSRC.

Since Jagan has already made a Backward Classes leader – Tammineni Sitaram as the Speaker of the state assembly, he is learnt to have chosen Moshen Raju, a Dalit Christian, for the council chairman post. Readmore!

It is learnt the chief minister has also finalised the name of senior leader Janga Krishna Murthy as the deputy chairman of the legislative council. Krishna Murthy, a BC leader from Guntur district, has been an MLC for quite some time.

He acted as the chairman of YSRC committee to look into the issues of the BCs including implementation of the BC sub-plan.

The nomination of the chairman and deputy chairman will be done soon after the commencement of the assembly session, which would be decided in the next cabinet meeting.

According to reports, the monsoon session is likely to be held in the second week of September for about a week. The government is likely to come out with a comprehensive statement on state finances, which has become a controversy in the recent past, during the session.

It will also unveil an action plan for the implementation of various schemes in the coming years so as to boost the confidence of the voters. The amendments to the Disha Bill, as sought by the Centre, would also be made in this session.
