Cyclone Nivar: Evacuees To Get Rs 500 Each!

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Friday decided to extend an immediate assistance of Rs 500 to each of the persons who were rendered homeless due to Cyclone Nivar impact, which resulted in flooding of their areas.

“Irrespective of whether they are children or old people, everybody evacuated to the relief centres will get Rs 500 each towards immediate relief. Similarly, the cabinet decided to extend compensation to all the farmers whose crops suffered losses due to heavy rains, by December end,” state agriculture minister K Kanna Babu said.

In all, more than 10,000 people were shifted to as many as 147 rehabilitation shelters and all of them would be given financial assistance of Rs 500 each.

In all, food crops were destroyed in 30,000 hectares and horticulture crops in 1300 hectares due to Cyclone Nivar. In all three persons died due to floods in Nellore district. In all 664 houses got submerged and another 673 houses got damaged. Readmore!

“Efforts are going on to restore normalcy in the flood affected areas on war footing,” the minister said, adding that farmers would also be given seeds at 80 per cent subsidy.

The cabinet also approved the decision to inaugurate house sites distribution programme on December 25. In all, 30.6 lakh people would be given house site pattas. So far, 66,518 acres of land was acquired at a cost of Rs 23,000 crore for distribution of house sites.

Similarly, houses will be constructed for 28.3 lakh people in the name of Jagananna Colonies. The houses will be completed within three years. In the first phase, 16 lakh houses would be constructed by the government.
