A prominent industrialist-turned-politician from Nellore, who defected from YSR Congress party to the Telugu Desam Party along with his wife, is reportedly contemplating returning to the ruling party.
According to speculations doing rounds in the district politics, the leader, who enjoyed a prominent position in the YSRCP and was tipped to be the candidate for Lok Sabha elections, chose to move out of the party, on the pretext that party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy did not consult him in the selection of certain candidates for assembly elections in his parliamentary constituency.
After keeping away from party activities for quite some time, this leader quietly defected to the TDP, which gave him the position he wanted. His wife was also given the TDP ticket from one of the assembly constituencies in Nellore.
However, reports said, this gentleman is not able to adjust himself in the TDP and is not kindly with the kind of politics there. Secondly, he is not able to get the kind of support from people which he was expecting as the TDP candidate, as he defected from YSRCP.
Since he is contesting the direct elections for the first time and there are clear indications of a possible sabotage to his chances by the local TDP leaders, this leader is learnt to be deeply hurt and regretting that he had changed the party unnecessarily.
Wisdom has dawned upon this leader that he had taken a wrong step in joining the TDP and it was more of an emotional decision than a practical one. So, it is learnt he has sent feelers to the YSRCP high command saying he wants to return to the party.
Since he and his wife had enjoyed good relationship with Jagan in the past, the YSRCP leadership, too, is understood to have expressed interest in accepting them again into the party. Since there is no dissidence against him and his wife in the party, nobody would raise any objection for their home coming, it is said.
If these rumours are true, the couple might return to the YSRCP before the commencement of the nomination process on April 18.
