Cong to TDP to YSRC to BJP: Jayasudha back in politics!

After being in political oblivion for a long time, popular actress and former Secunderabad MLA Jayasudha is back in active politics and is most likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party sooner or later.

Jayasudha met Union tourism minister and BJP Telangana unit president G Kishan Reddy on Saturday and held discussions with him for over an hour.

She is likely to fly down to New Delhi in a day or two to join the BJP in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah.

Kishan Reddy already left for New Delhi along with party national vice-president D K Aruna and MLA Eatala Rajender to discuss the party strategy to attract as many leaders as possible into the party ahead of the elections. Readmore!

Jayasudha was, in fact, supposed to join the BJP last year itself, along with former MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, but it was deferred for reasons known to her. Subsequently, she even criticised the Modi government for discriminating against South Indian film industry.

Now that elections are fast approaching, the veteran actress has decided to take a plunge into active politics and test her fortunes. She is likely to contest from Musheerabad assembly constituency, sources said.

The actress, who played leading roles in many films in 1970s and 1980s, had joined politics at the invitation of Congress leader and then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in 2009.

She was elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Secunderabad constituency in 2009. She, however, could not retain the seat in the 2014 elections.

She had quit the Congress to join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2016 but remained largely inactive in it. In 2019, she along with her son Nihar Kapoor had joined YSR Congress Party headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

But somehow, she could not adjust herself in the YSRC, as she was not given any position or post. She quietly came out of it and remained silent thereafter.

Meanwhile, four senior Congress leaders joined the BJP in the presence of Kishan Reddy and former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and others in New Delhi.

They are: former MLA Akula Rajender, former MLC Magam Ranga Reddy, former DCCB chairmen Jaipal Reddy (Zaheerabad) and Laxma Reddy (Ranga Reddy)
