Cong Cries Foul On ED Raids On Sujana!

The new-found love between the Congress and Telugu Desam Party has gone to such an extreme proportions that the former is strongly defending the latter in every issue, including the alleged financial irregularities of the TDP leaders.

On Sunday, All India Congress Committee spokesman and Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Manu Singhvi suspected foul play in the raids conducted by Enforcement Directorate officials on the offices of former union minister and TDP MP Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary, unearthing a major financial fraud to the tune of Rs 5,700 crore.

When a media person raised this issue at a press conference held at Gandhi Bhavan, the AICC spokesman said he had several doubts on the raids, particularly on whether the authorities had followed any legal procedures.

“I doubt the genuineness of the searches conducted by the ED authorities,” he said. Readmore!

Stating that the Congress party was not opposing the searches per se, but was only wondering whether the due procedures were followed or not, Singhvi pointed out that the Narendra Modi had government had been indulging in such acts of vengeance.

“In the last four and a half years, the NDA government had been unleashing vendetta of high order on its political opponents, which had never been witnessed in democratic India. Hence, the doubts,” he said.

He also questioned the timing of ED and IT raids on the political opponents of the BJP.

“The timing of these searches is uncanny. Why should there be a sudden spurt in the raids with political vendetta, just a few months before elections?” he asked.

Reacting to the allegations of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao and others that the land scams and farmers’ suicides had been the legacy of the Congress governments of the past, Singhvi said KCR had only been parroting the words of the BJP government at the Centre, with which he had surreptitious coalition.

“You have been ruling the state for the last four and a half years. Why haven’t you made any attempt to change even a small portion of what you are calling a legacy issue? What have you been elected for, if you are continuing the same scams?” he asked KCR.
