It is now confirmed. It was none other than retired IAS officer and Andhra Pradesh state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, who had written the controversial letter to Union home secretary on Wednesday seeking security by Central security forces for him and his family members from attacks by “ruling party goons.”
The confirmation came from the Union home ministry itself on Thursday, within hours it had received the letter form Ramesh Kumar.
The confirmation was given to an RTI activist Neeraj Kumar within hours of his requisition to the ministry seeking information about the letter.
“I have never received an RTI reply this quicker. I filed the request yesterday at 11.55 pm and I received an e-mail today at 5.14 PM. Less than 18 hours!” said Neeraj in his twitter posting.
Neeraj brought to the notice of the Union home ministry about social media reports with regard to a letter written by Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar seeking central protection.
“I kindly request you to share the reason for seeking central protection for discharging his duties and the action taken by the Home Secretary upon receiving the letter,” Neeraj said.
The Union home ministry, in its reply, acknowledged that the home secretary indeed had received a letter from Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday and it was forwarded to Joint Secretary (IS-I) for necessary action.
“Hence, your request has also been forwarded to the Joint Secretary for necessary action,” the ministry said in its reply to Neeraj.
It clearly showed that Ramesh Kumar had indeed written the letter to the Centre and had used derogatory words against chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his YSR Congress party.
Interestingly, within hours of getting the representation from Ramesh Kumar, the Centre had provided strong security cover to him by Central Reserve Police Forces at his office in Vijayawada. It is also an indication to the fact that the letter was written by Ramesh Kumar himself.
It remains to be seen what the Jagan government would do now.
