Centre provides CRPF security to Mithun Reddy

Even as the issue of providing additional security to YSR Congress party MP from Rajampet Peddireddy Mithun Reddy is still caught in a legal wrangle, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre has decided to provide additional security to him with Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF).

The decision to extend CRPF protection to Mithun Reddy comes within hours of his announcement in Lok Sabha that his party would strongly oppose the amendments proposed to be made to the Wakf Act, affecting interests of Muslim minorities.

Mithun Reddy made a request to the Union home ministry that he and his father – Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy – have been facing threat to their lives, as the Telugu Desam Party ranks were attacking their houses and properties.

“We were not in a position to enter our constituency without adequate security,” he said in his representation to the Centre. Readmore!

Acting on it quickly, the Union home ministry arranged the CRPF security to the YSRCP MP, after obtaining reports from the central intelligence sources.

Mithun Reddy had already approached the high court challenging the recommendations of the Security Review Committee (SRC) and seeking 4+4 security to him.

The high court directed the police to give SRC report to MP P Mithun Reddy who also filed a petition for 4+4 security.

The security cover given to Ramachandra Reddy and his son, Mithun Reddy, has been reduced to 1+1 and 2+2 respectively after general elections.

The father-son duo moved high court contending that they are having threat to life as the ruling party members are not even allowing them to visit the constituency.

The state govt on the other hand argued that the SRC did not make any recommendation for enhanced security other than that was given to the elected members of assembly and the parliament.

The SRC did not see any threat perception to both of them and did not recommend for enhanced cover.
