Case against RGV for unsavoury tweet on Murmu!

Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday fumed at maverick film director Ram Gopal Varma for making unsavoury comments against National Democratic Alliance’s Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu, a tribal politician from Odisha.

Even as Murmu filed her nomination papers in New Delhi for the Presidential elections amidst a lot of fanfare on Friday, a tweet by Ram Gopal Varma triggered an uproar.

“If DRAUPADI is the PRESIDENT who are the PANDAVAS? And more importantly, who are the KAURAVAS?” Varma tweeted.

The BJP felt Varma’s tweet as derogatory and an insult to a tribal woman who is all set to become the President of India. It was nothing but character assassination of a 64-year-old woman. Readmore!

Telangana BJP leader Narayan Reddy lodged a complaint with Abids Road police station against Ram Gopal Varma alleging he made derogatory comments against Presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu on social media.

Reddy said RGV had posted on Twitter making derogatory comments against the senior woman politician and former Governor of Jharkhand. The BJP leader submitted the tweet as evidence to the police along with the complaint.

He demanded that the police should register a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act and requested stringent punishment to RGV. The police said necessary action would be taken after a legal opinion was taken.

Meanwhile, firebrand BJP MLA from Goshamahal T Raja Singh gave a stern warning to Ram Gopal Varma for making such stupid comments against the NDA’s Presidential candidate.

Describing Varma as a “waste fellow,” Raja Singh said the director would post tweets in a drunken condition. “Varma always tries to be in the news by making such controversial comments,” he said.

Demanding that the police file a case against Varma under SC/ST atrocities (prevention) act, the BJP MLA said it was unfortunate that such comments against the first tribal woman Presidential candidate were most unfortunate.
