Capital shift to be delayed by 3 more months

It looks like there is no end to the uncertainty over shifting of the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam, as decided by YSR Congress party government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Till the other day, there were reports from the power corridors of Tadepalli that Jagan would be shifting his camp office first to Visakhapatnam followed by the rest of the state administration.

The muhurtam for Jagan to start functioning from Viskhapatnam was fixed as March 22, coinciding with Ugadi festival. But that is not going to happen and according to YSRC in-charge of Visakhapatnam Y V Subba Reddy, Jagan would be moving to the port city in April.

This was repeatedly stated by state industries minister Gudivada Amarnath, who said it is only a matter of days that Jagan would be shifting to Visakhapatnam and the administration would operate from there from the next academic year. Readmore!

But on Tuesday, Jagan came up with yet another date. He reportedly announced in the state cabinet meeting that he would be moving to Visakhapatnam in July.

“There would be no further delay in the capital shift. I shall be operating from Visakhapatnam with effect from July. This is for sure,” he said.

He said several government buildings were available in Visakhapatnam and the government offices would be moving there. Several buildings along Bhimili road would be used for converting them into state secretariat.

Similarly, many other buildings belonging to Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority would also be used for housing various heads of departments, he suggested.

Jagan asked the officials to make the arrangements for shifting the capital to Visakhapatnam on a war footing.
