Former Kurnool MP Butta Renuka, who returned to YSR Congress party fold after a brief stint in the Telugu Desam Party, is likely to get the reward for her “loyalty” to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
According to sources, the chief minister is learnt to have finalized Renuka’s name for the prestigious post of Kurnool Municipal Corporation Mayor in the forthcoming elections. He reportedly conveyed this to her and assured all possible assistance to her.
Renuka, who is also prominent industrialist from Kurnool, was elected to Lok Sabha from Kurnool in 2014 elections, but was lured into the Telugu Desam Party later.
Despite her loyalty to the TDP, party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu did not give her party ticket for Kurnool MP seat again.
As a result, Renuka felt insulted and quickly returned to YSRC, stating that Naidu had betrayed her. She did not expect any ticket from Jagan and remained loyal to YSRC. She also played a key role in the victory of YSRC in the district.
After YSRC came to power with a thumping majority, Renuka did not expect anything from the party and continued her loyalty to Jagan. Though there was a talk that she might be given the MLC ticket, it did not materialize.
Now, the fresh talk in the YSRC is that Jagan has promised her the Kurnool Mayor post and asked her to contest the municipal elections.
In fact, another defector from TDP S V Mohan Reddy is also lobbying for the Kurnool mayor post for his wife, but Jagan reportedly preferred Renuka, who is also a BC leader.
So, if the talk in the party turns out to be true, it is good news for Renuka, whose patience paid off at last. One has to wait for the official announcement from the party.
