A woman constable from Rangampeta, Jayasanthi, who recently went viral for clearing traffic while carrying her infant child, is now at the centre of a major controversy following allegations of fraud, misuse of certificates, and professional misconduct.
Jayasanthi had drawn widespread public attention after a video showed her holding her baby while managing traffic, prompting praise on social media and public commendation from senior officials.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha had even invited the constable to her residence and honoured her.
However, subsequent investigations have revealed that Jayasanthi allegedly secured her job in the 2024 District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitment using a forged Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificate.
Education department officials confirmed that she concealed her husband Tata Rao’s income—he is also a constable—and falsely cited her father as her guardian to obtain the certificate.
Following an inquiry, education authorities cancelled her DSC appointment and forwarded a complaint to the East Godavari Superintendent of Police, seeking criminal action for cheating the government.
Further allegations indicate that Jayasanthi assisted a head constable, Kameswara Rao, who was allegedly impersonating a Sub-Inspector using a fake identity card.
Critics on social media now claim that the viral traffic-clearing episode was a staged attempt to gain public sympathy and deflect attention from disciplinary proceedings.
As part of departmental action, Jayasanthi was transferred from the Railway Police to the Law-and-Order wing, while her husband Tatarao was earlier transferred from Rajamahendravaram Airport to Palnadu SPF on disciplinary grounds.
The unfolding controversy has raised serious questions about internal oversight, misuse of welfare provisions, and the role of publicity in influencing public perception.
Senior officials are yet to announce further action, even as public scrutiny intensifies.
