BJP president makes strange promise for GHMC polls!

It is quite common for political parties to make tall promises to the voters during any election – starting from crop loan waivers to free healthcare to the poor to interest-free loans to self-help groups etc.

Even in the ongoing elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, political parties have started making all sorts of promises to attract voters. One such strange promise was made by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sanjay said if the BJP captures the GHMC in the elections, it would see that the corporation itself would pay the challans of people for traffic violations.

He was referring to hefty challans being collected by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government from traffic offences, especially from youngsters. Readmore!

“Even for petty traffic violations like triple riding or jumping signals, the traffic police have been collecting hefty amounts as challan,” he alleged.

The BJP chief said if his party captured the GHMC in the coming elections, it would see that the entire challan amounts would be paid by the corporation itself, as the youth should not be penalized as they were not salaried class.

He wondered whether the traffic police were penalizing the youth in the old city of Hyderabad, dominated by the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.

“How many challans have you collected in the old city? Why are you discriminating against youth only in the new city area?” he asked.
