Bharatiya Janata Party which is going all out to capture power in Telangana in the next assembly elections in 2023, is planning to influence the voters in the state through non-resident Telanganites residing in different parts of the world.
Though NRIs won’t be able to participate in the electioneering in India directly, they play a crucial role in deciding the fate of the parties back home indirectly through various means – party funding, social media campaign and influencing the voting of their relatives back home.
That is why every political party has an NRI wing in the US and other countries and during the elections, they try to woo the NRIs through these NRI wings.
The BJP, too, is no exception. Though it is more than four years to go for the next assembly elections in Telangana, the party has started pampering the NRIs.
State BJP president Dr K Laxman said NRIs living in the US were inclined towards the BJP and they wanted to strengthen the party in the state.
"I have visited America; there NRI organisations and overseas friends of BJP had organised meetings and gave an overwhelming response to the party. They want to strengthen the BJP in Telangana. Many of them have taken BJP membership so that they can work for the party in Telangana. They take pride in the Modi government," he said.
The BJP president lashed out at Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for dancing to the tunes of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
He alleged that it was Owaisi, and not KCR, who was running the government and not KCR.
"Owaisi had said once that the symbol of TRS party might be a car but its steering was in his hands, indicating that Telangana government is run by him, not KCR. This is because TRS revolves and runs around AIMIM agenda," Laxman told a news agency.
