Better go for early polls than borrowings, says IYR

Whenever there is an opportunity, former chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh I Y R Krishna Rao tried to take pot shots at the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government, particularly with regard to the financial position of the state.

The self-styled Bharatiya Janata Party leader has been criticising the Jagan government for making indiscriminate borrowings to fund its welfare schemes.

He said the welfare agenda of the Jagan government has cost the exchequer heavily in the last three and a half years.

He wondered whether the Jagan government would be able to get more loans in the next one and a half years to implement the welfare schemes. Readmore!

“The government is looking for more options to borrow more money, but all the doors have now been closed,” he said.

Krishna Rao referred to a media report which said the Jagan government is planning to sell the lands in a big way to mobilise more money to fund its welfare schemes.

“But that is not the clever option. He cannot do it again and again. It will only backfire, if he cannot implement the schemes before the next elections,” he said.

The former chief secretary said the only option before Jagan is to go for mid-term elections to save his government and come back to power.

“Selling the government lands to mobilise money will not be the solution. Fortunately for him, his predecessors had not used such a brain to sell the lands. Otherwise, Jagan would not have been left with any government lands by now,” he said.
