The Andhra Pradesh police belonging to counter-intelligence wing on Tuesday conducted raids in six different places in Godhra in Panchmahal district of Gujarat and arrested five people including a woman.

According to state director general of police Gautam Sawang, the raids were conducted in connection with an issue of national interest into which investigation was going on.

“The arrested persons are being interrogated,” he said.

The DGP did not reveal the issue for which the raids had been conducted. However, according to reports in a section of social media, the matter could be pertaining to a honey trap case of Visakhapatnam or the recent narcotics import case at Mundra port in Gujarat. In November 2019, the counter-intelligence police of Andhra busted an espionage racket under the operation “Dolphin’s Nose” involving some Navy employees using honey trap by a Pakistan-based gang.

They arrested 11 persons including a garments trader, Yakub Imran Giteli alias Giteli Imran, who happens to be native of Godhra, Panchmahal district of Gujarat.

Yakub Imran was reportedly in contact with Pakistani ISI agents and mediated with the Navy personnel, who were allegedly involved in the case. He used to frequently visit Pakistan on the pretext of cloth business.

He allegedly transferred money into the accounts of the Navy personnel for leaking highly sensitive and strategic information.

Later, the case was taken over by the NIA, which filed charge sheet against 11 persons, including a few sailors and civilians.

A few women allegedly lured the sailors on social media groups and introduced them online to a self-claimed businessman, who was a Pakistani handler.
