AP assembly to pass bill online cinema ticketing!

The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh state legislature, which began on Thursday, will adopt a bill on the much-publicised online ticketing system in cinema theatres, to give it a statutory status.

The bill seeking to replace an ordinance – the Andhra Pradesh Cinemas (Regulation) Amendment Ordinance, 2021 – issued to this effect would be introduced in the state assembly by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and would be adopted after a brief discussion during the session.

The cabinet held last month took a decision on the ordinance to introduce online ticketing system in cinema theatres, so that the entire ticket sales in the theatres would come into the hands of the state government.

As many as 14 other important ordinances, including the one on prohibition of assigned land transactions, would be replaced by relevant bills for introduction in the assembly during the session. Readmore!

The session will be held for six working days and not just one day, as proposed earlier. It was decided at the Business Advisory Committee meeting held at the chambers of assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram, soon after the adoption of condolence motion on the death of 10 former MLAs.

While the government proposed that the session would be held for one day and another session in detail could be held next month, the opposition Telugu Desam Party insisted that the present session itself should continue at least for one week.

With the government accepting the demand, the Speaker announced that the session would continue for six days till November 16, including holidays.

However, there was a little confusion in the state legislative council. The BAC originally decided to hold the session only for one day, but when the opposition pointed out that the assembly was meeting for six days, the council called for a revised BAC meeting to change the schedule.
