Hyderabad: T. Maruthi Rao, the prime accused in the murder of his son-in-law Perumalla Pranay, was cremated in his hometown Miryalguda in Telangana on Monday but his relatives did not allow his daughter Amrutha to see him for the last time.
Rao has allegedly committed suicide at a guest house here on Sunday.
Amrutha had approached the police to provide security so that she could catch the last glimpse of her father. Though the policemen were deployed at Rao's house, his relatives refused to allow her and even raised slogans against her. She had to go back without seeing the body.
Rao had allegedly killed himself by consuming poison at Arya Vysya Bhavan here on Sunday. According to police, a suicide note reading: "Amrutha go back to your mother. I am sorry" was found on the spot.
However, Amrutha told reporters on Monday that she will not go back to parents' house but her mother can come and stay with her. "I know the pain of a woman when she loses her husband," she said, recalling the killing of her husband Pranay.
Maruthi Rao, who belongs to Vysya community, had allegedly got Pranay, 24, killed by a hired assassin - Subhash Sharma of Bihar - as her daughter had married the Dalit man against his wishes.
Pranay, 24, was hacked to death when he was coming out of a hospital with his pregnant wife and mother on September 14, 2018. The killing in full public view was also caught on CCTV camera.
Amrutha, who vowed never to return to her parents' house, delivered a baby boy in January last year.
"As far as I know those who dare to kill others will be no cowards to kill themselves," she said raising doubts about her father's suicide. She said her father and uncle Shravan Kumar had a property dispute and the latter had beaten up her father a couple of times.
In June last year, the police had filed a charge sheet against Rao, and seven others. He had struck the deal to kill Pranay for Rs 1 crore.
Amrutha and Pranay were childhood friends and they had married at Arya Samaj in Hyderabad in 2018 against the wishes of her parents.
