Accommodating castes, leaders, Jagan's new way

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has new mechanism of accommodating representatives of various castes, which is seen as his best formula.

He had, for the first time ever in the country, made five deputy chief ministers, giving one each to the SCs, STs, BCs, Minorities and Women.

Now, with the municipal elections completed and the election of mayor and deputy mayors for the municipal corporations and chairman and deputy chairman for municipalities due on March 18, the chief minister had come up with a fresh idea.

The local bodies have so far one deputy mayor for municipal corporations and one vice-chairman for municipalities. Readmore!

To accommodate more leaders and more castes, the chief minister had decided to have two deputy mayors for municipal corporations and two vice-chairpersons for municipalities.

The government is planning to bring an ordinance changing the municipal Act to allow the election of the two deputy mayors and two deputy vice-chairpersons.

This would give a chance to the chief minister to accommodate more leaders in power and bring in representatives of more castes.
