Releasing new movies on OTT (over the top) platforms has been the only viable option for film producers since the pandemic struck.
Many promising and notable films were released on various OTT platforms and unfortunately most of them turned out to be disappointments.
There are some surprising duds that could have been box office disasters if they were released in a conventional way.
Here are some major disappointments across OTT platforms this year.
V: Starring Nani and Sudheer Babu in the lead roles, V was bankrolled by Dil Raju and directed by Indraganti Mohana Krishna.
Despite having big names both in front and back of the camera, V turned out to be a huge disappointment.
Weak screenplay and characterizations left fans and film buffs terribly disappointed.
Amazon Prime has spent a bomb on the film, but it didn’t give them satisfactory returns.
Nishabdham: This Anushka – Madhavan – Anjali starrer looked promising from the outset, but it ended up as a lacklustre thriller without any redeeming points about it.
Even ace writer Kona Venkat’s experience couldn’t help the film to impress the OTT audience.
Miss India: Keerthy Suresh’s Tamil film Penguin was also skipped theatrical release before Miss India. If Penguin was a disappointment, Miss India turned out to be a disaster.
Many wondered how Keerthy Suresh picked this film over many other offers post Mahanati.
Orey Bujjiga: Raj Tarun had high hopes on this masala entertainer. The makers were so confident that they planned to release it against Nani’s V in the theaters.
But Orey Bujjiga’s shoddy script and lack of X factor made it look pale and dull when watching on TV.
It is one of the biggest disappointments of the year.
Maa Vintha Gadha Vinuma: This film wouldn’t have been noticed if not for Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s previous film Krishna and his Leela.
The young actor has shown so much promise in KAHL but couldn’t live up to expectations with MVGV for which he was creatively involved in various departments.
