Police deny attack on actor Sai Dharam Tej

The Kakinada district police have refuted social media claims that actor Sai Dharam Tej, nephew of Pawan Kalyan, was attacked in Tatiparthi village, Gollaprolu mandal, Kakinada district.

Reports had circulated that YSRC workers assaulted Sai Dharam Tej with beer bottles, causing injuries to a Jana Sena worker who was then admitted to the government hospital in Pithapuram.

Telugu Desam leader and former MLA S.V.S.N. Varma suggested that the YSRC orchestrated the attack due to fears of losing to the NDA alliance.

However, Kakinada DSP K. Hanumantha Rao clarified to the media on Monday that Sai Dharam Tej was not involved in the incident.

According to DSP Rao, Sai Dharam Tej had parked his vehicle on the outskirts of the village and proceeded to campaign on foot when an unknown object was thrown by a YSRC worker, striking village bystander Nalla Sridhar.

Sridhar sustained a mild head injury but was discharged from the hospital on Monday after receiving treatment.

DSP Rao emphasized that no bottles or other objects were found at the scene. Nonetheless, the police have detained two YSRC workers and issued them notices under section 41A. A case has been registered by the Gollaprolu police, he added.
