AP: Wife's Threat to Enter Fray against Hubby

In a groundbreaking political development in Andhra Pradesh, a woman deeply involved in politics has made the decision to run for office against her husband, who is the ruling YSRC candidate in the Tekkali Assembly constituency of Srikakulam district.

Duvvada Srinivas is already facing a formidable opponent, TD state president K. Atchannaidu, and now his wife, Duvvada Vani, has also decided to enter the race against him. Her decision stems from the strain in her marital relationship with Srinivas.

Srinivas has previously lost elections in both the Srikakulam LS polls to K. Rama Mohan Naidu in 2014 and the Tekkali Assembly polls to Atchannaidu in 2019. Since then, he has been gearing up for a more robust electoral battle.

Last year, during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Mulapeta Seaport in Srikakulam district, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Srinvas as the Tekkali Assembly candidate.

However, tensions between Srinivas and his wife Vani escalated, leading Vani to approach senior YSRC leaders and express her grievances about her husband's behavior, both at home and in the constituency's politics.

Taking her concerns seriously, the Chief Minister replaced Srinivas with Vani as the new in-charge for the constituency. They subsequently opened separate offices and campaigned independently. Vani held significant influence in the party as the ZTPC of Tekkali.

Later, the YSRC leadership reversed its decision and reinstated Srinivas as the candidate for Tekkali, removing Vani from her in-charge position.

Vani remained silent until the election notification was issued. However, during her birthday celebrations on Thursday, she met with her supporters and declared her intention to run as an independent candidate, filing her nominations on April 22.

Her announcement quickly gained attention, prompting top leaders to intervene and attempt to resolve the situation.

"I met with regional YSRC coordinator Y.V. Subba Reddy on Friday evening for discussions," Vani informed.

"He mentioned convening a cadre meeting of the constituency on Saturday. I will make a final decision after that meeting," she added.
