HC reserves verdict on Avinash bail

Even as just a month is left for the conduct of general and state assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, the fate of YSR Congress party candidate for Kadapa parliamentary seat Y S Avinash Reddy hangs in balance in connection with the alleged murder of his uncle and former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

The Telangana high court on Monday completed its arguments on the petition seeking cancellation of bail to Avinash Reddy and reserved its judgement. It is not immediately known when the judgement will be delivered.

The petitions were filed by one of the killers of Viveka and his former driver Shaik Dastagiri and Viveka’s daughter Dr N Sunitha Reddy.

Even the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which filed its counter affidavit in the case, also opposed granting of bail to Avinash Reddy.

The petitioners argued that Avinash Reddy, who was given a conditional bail in the past, has been influencing the witnesses and threatening them.

Dastagiri said Avinash had made several threatening calls to him and even tried to bring pressure on him in the jail.

If the high court cancels his bail before the elections, Avinash Reddy won’t be able to campaign in the elections.

If the judgement comes after May 13, then it would not make much difference to him.
